India along with South Africa proposed before EU for TRIPS waver regarding production of patent vaccine. In this grim situation patent wavier or compulsory licensing is the need of the hour & if decisions are not taken quick enough then before humanity a big question mark is laying.

India is the world’s largest producer of vaccine but if it needs to reach its optimal level & patent wavier is the only way. The more the production of vaccine will be the less positive case will come up. India is the “lender of last resort” for many underdeveloped & developing countries in regard to vaccine import as production cost in India is much much cheaper.

India in 2020 started Vaccine Maitri which even continued few months back untill the second wave catastrophe the whole nation which compelled Indian government banning export of vaccine outside India.

US has also backed India in this proposal but the EU leaders has assured that talks are under way for wavier but first it need US to lift curb on export of vaccine before expecting any decision on patent wavier.
